How pain is treated

Treatment modalities

Pain care rarely relies on a single treatment. The right combination is decided case by case, after assessment, and reviewed as your symptoms change.

Medical management

Analgesics, anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs), nerve-directed agents and adjuvants, chosen and adjusted for each patient.

Physical & rehabilitative care

Physiotherapy, graded exercise, posture and activity guidance to rebuild strength and function around the painful area.

Interventional procedures

Image-guided injections, nerve blocks and ablation techniques for pain that does not settle with medicines and rehabilitation alone.

Psychological & multidisciplinary support

Support for the distress, sleep problems and reduced activity that long-term pain can cause, coordinated with other specialists where helpful.

Not every modality suits every patient. Medicines, physiotherapy, procedures and psychological support are combined differently depending on the diagnosis, your health, your preferences and how you respond to treatment.
